Do these numbers match older fixtures?
No. The defaults reflect modern water-efficient fixtures. Older toilets can use 3.5 to 7 gallons per flush and pre-2000 washers far more per load, so a dated home may use two to three times what this shows.
Why isn't outdoor and tap water included?
This focuses on the four biggest and easiest-to-count indoor uses. Lawn watering, hand-washing, cooking, and drips vary hugely and are hard to estimate reliably, so they're left out to keep the tool honest and simple.
How does this compare to average use?
The average American uses roughly 80 to 100 gallons of water a day across all activities. If your total here lands well above that per person, showers and laundry are usually the places to look first.
