Tip Calculator

Work out the tip, then split the whole bill evenly across the table — no awkward napkin math.

How it works

Enter the bill, pick a tip percentage, and say how many people are splitting it. The tip is just the bill times the percentage, and the total is the two added together — but the useful part is the per-person number underneath.

Fifteen to twenty percent is the usual range for table service in the US. Tap one of the quick buttons if you don't want to type, then bump the split up or down as people join or leave.

Tipping on the pre-tax amount is perfectly normal, so if you'd rather not tip on the tax, enter the bill before tax and you'll be right on the money.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?

For sit-down restaurant service in the US, 15 to 20 percent is standard, and 20 percent or more says the service was great. Counter service and takeout are looser — round up or drop a couple of dollars if you like.

Should I tip on the total or the pre-tax amount?

Either is fine and people do both. Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is a little more traditional; tipping on the full total is simpler and slightly more generous. Enter whichever number you prefer as the bill.

How does the bill split work?

The calculator adds the tip to the bill, then divides the total by the number of people. Everyone pays the same share, tip included, which keeps things simple when one card covers the table.

Can I use it for a group with a big party fee?

Yes. If the restaurant already added an automatic gratuity, set the tip to 0 percent and just use the split feature to divide the total.
