This uses the standard Western (tropical) zodiac, where each sign covers a fixed stretch of the calendar. Dates near a boundary (a "cusp") can differ by a day some years because the sun's exact crossing shifts slightly.

How it works

Pick your birth date and the calculator tells you which of the twelve Western zodiac signs you fall under, along with the dates that sign covers, its element, and its symbol.

The Western (tropical) zodiac splits the year into twelve fixed stretches — Aries starts around March 21, Taurus around April 20, and so on. Each sign also belongs to one of four elements: fire, earth, air, or water. The calculator simply looks up where your date lands.

If you were born right at the edge of two signs, that's called a cusp. The exact moment the sun crosses between signs shifts by up to a day from year to year, so borderline dates can occasionally differ from a chart based on your exact birth year and time.

Frequently asked questions

What if my birthday is on a cusp?

Cusp dates sit on the boundary between two signs. The transition can move by about a day depending on the year, so if you're right on the line, a detailed birth chart using your exact time and place is the way to settle it.

Is this the same as Chinese zodiac?

No. This is the Western zodiac, based on the month and day you were born. The Chinese zodiac follows a twelve-year animal cycle tied to the lunar calendar and works completely differently.

What does the element mean?

Each sign is grouped into fire, earth, air, or water. Astrologers use these elements to describe shared traits between signs — it's a traditional way of organizing the twelve into four families.
