Dog Food Calculator
Estimate how much to feed your dog each day from its weight and activity level.
We start from resting needs (70 × weight in kg to the 0.75 power) and scale by activity. Cups assume a typical dry kibble at about 325 kcal per cup — check your bag, since rich foods pack more per cup.
How it works
A dog's daily food starts from its resting energy needs, which scale with body weight, then get adjusted for how active and how old the dog is. A working dog burns far more than a senior napping on the couch.
The tool estimates resting energy from weight, multiplies by an activity factor, and turns the result into a rough calorie target and an approximate number of cups of typical dry food.
Every food has a different calorie density, so treat the cup figure as a starting point. The number on your bag and your vet's advice should have the final say.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I feed my dog each day?
It depends on weight, age, and activity. This estimates daily calories from those and converts to cups, but the feeding guide on your specific food is the best cross-check.
Why does activity level change the amount?
An active or working dog burns more energy than a couch companion, so it needs more calories. Puppies and pregnant dogs also need extra.
How many cups is that?
It varies by food, since calorie density differs between brands and formulas. The cup estimate assumes a typical dry food of around 350 calories per cup.
