How it works

The core sum is one everyone knows: marks you got, divided by marks available, times 100. Score 45 out of 50 and that's 90%. But a bare percentage rarely tells the whole story — you also want to know if it clears the bar.

So this calculator pins a letter grade to your percentage and checks it against a pass mark you choose. Set the pass threshold to whatever your exam uses — 40%, 50%, whatever — and it tells you plainly whether you're through or short.

Everything recomputes as you type, so it's easy to play what-if: if you'd picked up three more marks, would that have flipped a fail to a pass, or bumped a B to an A? Handy for checking a graded paper or estimating before results land.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my exam percentage?

Divide the marks you obtained by the total marks and multiply by 100. For example, 45 marks out of 50 is 45 ÷ 50 × 100, which comes to 90%.

How is the pass or fail decided?

The tool compares your percentage to the pass mark you enter. If your percentage is at or above the threshold it shows Pass; if it's below, it shows Fail. Change the threshold to match your exam's rule.

What letter grade will 90% get?

On the standard scale, 90% and above is an A, the 80s are a B, 70s a C, 60s a D, and anything under 60% an F. Individual schools sometimes shift these cutoffs slightly.
