Ordering for a crowd? Punch in the headcount and how hungry everyone is to see how many pies to get.
How it works
The rule of thumb is three slices a person for an average appetite. Multiply your headcount by slices per person, divide by the slices on each pie, and round up so nobody's left staring at an empty box.
A standard large pizza is cut into 8 slices. So for 8 average eaters that's 24 slices, or 3 large pizzas — with a slice or two to spare, which is exactly what you want.
Bump the hunger level up for teenagers, a game-day crowd, or a party with no other food. Dial it down if there are sides, salad, or dessert doing some of the work.
Frequently asked questions
How many pizzas do I need for 10 people?
For 10 average adults, plan on about 4 large pizzas — that's roughly 30 slices from three slices each, rounded up. Order a fifth if it's a hungry crowd or the pizza is the only food.
How many slices should I plan per person?
Three slices covers most adults with a normal appetite. Kids and light eaters land around two, while teens, athletes, and anyone skipping lunch can put away four or more.
Should I round up or down?
Round up every time. Leftover pizza is a fine problem to have, and running short mid-party isn't. An extra pie also gives you a buffer for anyone who wanders in late.
Does topping choice change the count?
Heavier pizzas like meat-lovers or deep dish fill people up faster, so you can trim a bit. Lighter cheese or veggie pies go quicker, so lean toward the higher estimate there.
