How it works

Rolling a single die is easy to reason about — every face is equally likely. Rolling several and adding them is where it gets interesting, because the middle sums come up far more often than the extremes. With two six-sided dice there's only one way to roll a 2, but six ways to roll a 7.

This tool counts every possible combination for your chosen dice and turns those counts into real probabilities. Pick a target sum and whether you want it exactly, at least that much, or at most that much, and you get a clean percentage along with the raw number of favorable outcomes.

The bar chart underneath shows the whole distribution, so you can see that classic bell shape and spot where your target sits. It's a quick sanity check before you bet the game on a lucky roll.

Frequently asked questions

What are the odds of rolling a 7 on 2d6?

Exactly one in six, or about 16.7%. There are six ways to make 7 out of 36 equally likely outcomes, which is why 7 is the most common result and the star of games like craps.

What does the distribution chart show?

Each bar is one possible sum, and its length is how likely that sum is relative to the peak. Together they form the familiar bell curve that grows steeper as you add more dice.

Can I use non-standard dice?

Yes. Set any number of sides from 2 up to 100 and up to 30 dice. The math handles d4s, d10s, d20s, or anything in between exactly, not by simulation.
