How it works

The math hinges on how many hours and days you actually work. Hourly pay becomes annual by multiplying by your weekly hours and 52 weeks; a yearly salary becomes hourly by dividing back out. That's why the hours-per-week and days-per-week fields matter.

Change any single input and every period recalculates from the same annual figure, so an offer quoted per hour can be compared with one quoted per year without doing the arithmetic in your head.

These are gross figures — before tax, benefits, and other deductions. Your take-home pay will be lower, but gross is the right number for comparing offers and understanding a raise.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to an annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by 52 weeks. At $25 an hour for 40 hours a week, that's $52,000 a year. Adjust the hours field if you work part-time.

Is this gross or net pay?

Gross — the amount before income tax, insurance, retirement contributions, and other deductions. Your actual take-home pay will be lower, but gross pay is what job offers usually quote.

How many working weeks does it assume?

52 weeks a year. If you want to account for unpaid time off, you can lower the hours or days per week to approximate a shorter working year.
