Character Counter

Keep an eye on the character count while you write a tweet, a bio, or a meta description — the numbers move as you type.

How it works

As you type or paste, the counter tallies four things: total characters, characters without spaces, words, and lines. Everything recalculates on each keystroke, so there's no button to press.

The 'no spaces' figure strips every space, tab, and line break before counting, which is handy when a field limits visible characters rather than raw length. The 'characters' figure counts them all.

Nothing gets uploaded. The counting happens on your device, so a private draft or an unpublished caption stays with you.

Frequently asked questions

Do spaces count as characters?

In the main total, yes — spaces, tabs, and line breaks all count. The separate 'no spaces' number strips whitespace first, which matches how some form fields measure length.

Why does the character count matter for social posts?

Most platforms cap posts and bios at a fixed number of characters, and search snippets truncate around 155–160. Watching the live count helps you trim before you hit the wall.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The counter runs entirely in your browser, so you can paste sensitive notes or unreleased copy and nothing leaves your device.
